Who is eligible?
The PREP Grant is available only to accredited universities, colleges, teacher-training schools, institutions or centers involved in pre-service or in-service teacher professional development or education leading to an education degree or professional teacher certification for a minimum of 100 teachers per year. For-profit institutions do not qualify for the Grant. PREP Grants are also available to all local, district or regional in-service teacher-training centers that train a minimum of 100 teachers per year. Prior recipients of a PREP Grant in any previous year are not eligible.

The PREP Grant may be applied only to the Suggested Retail Price of the qualified SMART products, and it may not be used with, or combined with, special pricing that may be available through bid aggregators (such as PEPPM or other similar organizations) or through the placement of SMART products on government contracts. Qualifying SMART products include the SMART Board interactive whiteboard, the SMART Expression multimedia cabinet, SynchronEyes computer-lab instruction software, the Camfire whiteboard camera and SMART Ideas software. Will a product price change affect my Grant award?
In the event of a list price decrease of any qualifying SMART product before the PREP Grant has been utilized, the foundation reserves the right to decrease the Grant amount awarded. Should this situation occur, the net amount that you would pay would not be greater than the original net amount, exclusive of taxes, shipping, training, installation and importation costs, if any. How many Grants are available?
500 PREP Grants per product class are available to teacher-training and preparation facilities internationally
Grants will be evaluated and awarded upon submission
What is the application deadline?
Applications must be submitted at any time prior to midnight, December 1, 2005.
Applications will be processed and PREP Grants awarded as received. It is possible that all funds may be awarded prior to the deadline.
Recipients must utilize the PREP Grant by December 31, 2005

What are the criteria for selection?
PREP Grants are available to teacher-training centers that train a minimum of 100 teachers per year. Programs that stimulate and support significant reforms and innovative large-scale improvements in the preparation and certification of well-prepared, technology-proficient teachers will be most favorably considered. Strong consideration will also be given to in-service teacher-training programs that train a minimum of 100 teachers per year and that are aimed at improving a teacher's technological proficiency and ability to apply technology in the classroom. PREP Grant recipients must be willing to provide the name and contact information of both an instructor and a student so they can be interviewed about the training program. Recipients must also be willing to permit the SMARTer Kids Foundation to use their names or the name of the institution along with a description of their use of SMART products in any promotional material or programs that the foundation and its partners may elect. In the case of product endorsements, recipients will have the opportunity to participate in the development of the material to ensure that it accurately represents their use of the products.  Apply Now
 

What do I include in my application?
Submit a minimum 250-word proposal that includes a brief background of your institution and describes how your institution:

Engages teachers in developing new strategies for using information and communications technologies
Encourages active learner involvement and interaction through participation and feedback techniques
Promotes the development of integrated curriculum materials and curriculum design
Intends to use each of the requested products for training teachers
Stimulates innovative application of technology in the classroom
Trains teachers to use and integrate technology into the curriculum

PREP Grant applications must also include the following:

A list of degrees or certificates awarded by the institution
The number of teachers trained per year

A list of the major sponsors of the facility

How will I know if my Grant application is approved?
The foundation will notify you of the committee's decision by fax or e-mail. The foundation will use its reasonable best efforts to notify all applicants within 30 working days of receiving a completed PREP Grant application. If awarded, the notification letter will state your Grant approval number and the name of the Preferred Reselling Partner who has been authorized to process your PREP Grant. Apply Now

What is the next step after the PREP Grant is approved?
Upon approval of your PREP Grant, the foundation will also notify Presentation Products, Inc.. We will contact you to discuss your product requirements and assist you with the purchase of your SMART product(s). Apply Now

To whom do I send my purchase order?
Please submit your purchase order to Presentation Products, Inc. being sure to indicate your PREP Grant number. We will invoice you for the list price of the SMART product less the Grant amount applicable per product. We will also add taxes, shipping, installation, importation and training costs as quoted.
